National Youth Week is developed by young people and is the largest annual celebration of young people on the Australian youth calendar. Youth Week is a joint Commonwealth, State, Territory and Local Government Initiative. It is based upon the theme of celebrating and recognising the value of all young Australians to their communites.

Youth week for the project team was jam packed and very exciting. We spent the week getting involves in numerous activities and festivals and met many of Parramatta’s youth along the way. We were asked to judge the ‘What’s Ya Flavour’ talent quest on Saturday at Wentworthville Bowling Club where young people from a variety of youth organisations throughout the Parramatta area performed and greatly impressed the Parramatta locals with dancing, rapping, opera and heavy metal tracks. We also headed to an Astrology Workshop organised by the Merrylands Library and learnt more about our relations to the stars (trippy stuff!), a DJ comp held at High Street Youth Centre and experienced the dramatic side of things in ‘Search for Utopia’ at the Youth Art Space. We also got our butts kicked at a 5 on 5 soccer comp at Granville Youth and Community Recreation Centre. On Saturday we headed to the Merrylands Youth center launch party, which went off with Playstation 2, computers, pool tables, table tennis, graffiti works, DJ works and an abundance of food being on display. On Sunday the team spent the day at the Granville Youth and Community Recreation Centre and helped celebrate their grand new- youth festival and experienced more youth activities such as basketball and a band competition as well as some martial arts action.
