This was the project teams first attempt at something like this and
as would be expected, forming an agenda for a youth jury
is a lot more difficult than it may sound. We went through about 7 drafts
hit a final copy. We had to be sure that every part of
the agenda was given a perfect time frame because there was so much to
do we had to
make sure we had the required time to do it in. Furthermore
we had to be flexible enough so as to allow for last minute changes so
as to ensure
that the things that needed to be discussed were discussed.
In addition, we also had to ensure that every process we designed for
facilitating the small and large group
discussions was fair to every juror and was easy
to follow. There needed to be enough
time for jurors to say what they wanted to say
but not so long that jurors would become bored or stuck at certain issues.
process required several hundred meeting for the
project team (okay maybe only 10 or so). It was so important
that everyone knew where they were meant to be at every
minute. Furthermore the team
recognised how instrumental we would all be in the process
and therefore spent quite while deliberating on our own
roles in the process and of
course that every little part of everyone’s role fitted into the
time frame allocated to each agenda item.
